1.           What are cookies and how do we use them?

1.1.       We automatically collect and store information about you through cookies and/or other similar technologies such as HTML5 cookies for local storage and pixels, which are collectively referred to as “Cookies” in this Cookie Statement. These are usually pieces of information or code that a website transfers to or opens from the hard drive of your computer or mobile device to distinguish you from other users of our Websites and to store and sometimes track information about you.

1.2.       The Websites use different types of Cookies. Alius believes it is important that you have control over your online privacy. That is why Alius wants to inform you as fully as possible about which Cookies are used and for what purposes. Below you will find the purposes and legal basis for each category of Cookies. At the bottom of this Cookie Statement you will find an up-to-date overview of the Cookies placed and their status.

2.           Which cookies do we use?

2.1.       In order to offer content that is interesting to you and to ensure that your preferences and settings are used each time you visit our Websites, we use both first-party Cookies and third-party Cookies. These Cookies help us to maintain and improve the functionality of our Websites, your experience and your use of our Websites in general. Depending on the specific type of Cookie, some Cookies are automatically deleted after a certain period of time.

2.2.       Alius makes an distinction between functional and non-functional Cookies. Functional Cookies are always placed. These are necessary for the Websites to function properly. For example, they ensure that you can remain logged in to the Websites. In addition to functional Cookies, non-functional Cookies are also placed. Statistical Cookies are an example of non-functional Cookies, which are not necessary for the proper functioning of the Websites. Non-functional Cookies enable Alius to know which parts of the Websites are popular and where the Websites can be improved. Such Cookies are only placed if you give your consent for the placement of non-functional Cookies.

2.3.       We use four different categories of Cookies, which can be distinguished based on their function: (1) strictly necessary Cookies, (2) preference Cookies, (3) statistical Cookies and (4) marketing Cookies. In addition, there are also unclassified Cookies, which have not (yet) been categorised in one of the above categories.

3.           Strictly necessary Cookies

3.1.       Strictly necessary Cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the Websites. They ensure that basic functions such as navigation, logging in and using a shopping basket are possible. Without these Cookies, the Websites cannot function properly and certain services cannot be provided.

3.2.       Purposes – We use strictly necessary Cookies, among other things, to:

·        ensure that the Websites are accessible and usable, including, but not limited to, balancing the load on the Websites so that they remain available;

·        support core functionalities, such as login and session management;

·        offer the option to save login details so that you do not have to re-enter the same information repeatedly;

·        remember information you enter on different pages so that you do not have to re-enter your details;

·        to read your browser settings for optimal display of our Websites;

·        to provide services that you explicitly request, such as access to payment processes;

·        detect misuse of our Websites and services, for example by recording the number of consecutive failed login attempts.

3.3.       Legal basis – As these Cookies are technically necessary for the use of our Websites, your consent is not required. The personal data we process as a result of the use of these Cookies is therefore based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) and/or the performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) UK GDPR).

4.           Preference Cookies

4.1.       Preference Cookies are used to tailor the Websites to your personal preferences. For example, they remember language settings, display preferences or previously selected options. This means that you do not have to make the same choices every time you visit, making the user experience more comfortable and personal.

4.2.       Purposes – We use preference Cookies, among other things, to:

·        remember the chosen language (e.g. Dutch or English) for the next visit;

·        save the selected region or currency;

·        remember login preferences such as ‘stay logged in’ so that you do not have to log in again each time;

·        remember previously entered form data (such as name or address) for faster use in future interactions;

·        remember display settings such as font size, contrast mode or dark mode;

·        save selected filter or sort options for the next session;

·        remember preferences for notifications or pop-ups (for example, whether a cookie banner has already been clicked away).

4.3.       Legal basis – These Cookies are not technically necessary. They therefore require your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) UK GDPR).

5.           Statistical Cookies

5.1.       Statistical Cookies, also known as analytical Cookies, collect data about how you use the Websites. They provide insight into which pages are frequently visited, how long someone stays and whether error messages occur.

5.2.       Purposes – Statistical Cookies are used, among other things, to:

·        count the total number of visitors and unique users of the Websites;

·        gain insight into returning versus new visitors to the Websites;

·        measure and report visitor numbers, visit time and popular pages;

·        analyse from which external sources visitors reach the Websites (such as search engines or social media);

·        track click paths and see how visitors navigate through the Websites;

·        analyse differences in usage between devices, browsers or operating systems;

·        compare performance over different periods.

5.3.       Legal basis – These Cookies are not technically necessary. They therefore require your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) UK GDPR).

5.4.       Google – For these purposes, we also use Google Analytics Cookies, provided by Google Inc. ("Google"), 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. 7.2.       Legal basis – These cookies are not technically necessary. They therefore require your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) UK GDPR), unless they are strictly necessary Cookies. 8.2.       Please let us know if you encounter Cookies that fall into this category and that we have therefore not mentioned in this Cookie Statement. You can also contact the third party directly to ask which Cookies they use, the reason, how long the Cookie is stored and how they guarantee your privacy.
