What is a Single-phase EV charger?
This is a EV charger that works on a Single-phase connection, which can be found in the meter cupboard at home. A Single-phase EV charger uses a standard 230V connection and 16 amps, meaning that the charging capacity of a 16A Single-phase EV charger is 3.7kW (16A x 230V). If a car has a battery of 80kWh, it takes about 21 hours to charge the car with this charging capacity.
It is often possible to upgrade from 16A to 32A.
This allows you to use a 32A Single-phase EV charger. It can then deliver 7.2 kW of charging capacity. A car with 80kWh would charge in about 11 hours. However, it should be noted that the network may become overloaded, resulting in power outages.
3-phase EV charger
Many cars are charged with a 3-phase EV charger. However, it is necessary that a 3-phase connection is installed in the meter cupboard. A 3-phase connection is also known as three-phase power. As a result, an electric vehicle can be charged faster with this connection. There are 2 variants of 3-phase EV chargers: an 11kW EV charger and a 22kW EV charger.
