This EV charger is characterised by the presence of four wires: 3 phase wires for electrical power and 1 neutral wire as a conductor. This type of EV charger thus offers a higher charging capacity compared to Single-phase EV chargers. A 3-phase connection is also known as three-phase power. The result is that an electric vehicle can be charged faster with this connection. Depending on the consumer's needs, there are two variants of 3-phase EV chargers available: an 11kW station and a 22kW station. For example, with an 11kW EV charger (3x16A), a vehicle with a 60kWh battery capacity can be fully charged in about six hours.
Can you connect a 3-phase EV charger to a Single-phase?
Yes, the EV charger can be installed and then connected to a Single-phase system, allowing the customer to charge at Single-phase. This is beneficial if, in the future, a vehicle is purchased that supports 3-phase charging. This way, there is no need to install a new EV charger.
